A WhatsApp official said on Friday that the Israeli company Paraguayn Soloshns for spying programs targeted dozens of users, including journalists and members of civil society.
The official added that WhatsApp, which is affiliated with Mita, sent a letter to Paraguce after the hacking, asking her to stop it.
WhatsApp said in a statement that it "will continue to defend the ability to communicate with privacy."
Paragon was reluctant to comment.
WhatsApp official told Reuters that the company had monitored an attempt to penetrate targeting about 90 users of its platform.
