The “Cairo Peace Summit” was launched in the new capital of Egypt today, Saturday, which discusses the war in the Gaza Strip that broke out two weeks ago between Israel and Hamas.
In his opening speech during the summit, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed that “liquidating the Palestinian issue without a just solution will not happen, and in any case it will never happen at Egypt’s expense,” calling for international protection for the Palestinians.
He continued, “We renew our rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians and their exodus to Sinai, and we consider this a final liquidation of his cause.” He added, "Anyone who thinks that the steadfast Palestinian people want to leave their land, even if it is under occupation or bombing, is mistaken."
He wondered: “Where are the values of human civilization that we have built over the centuries? Where is the equality between human lives without distinction, division, or double standards?
He pointed out that Egypt, from the first moment, engaged in efforts at night and during the day to coordinate and send humanitarian aid to those besieged in Gaza, and did not close the Rafah land crossing at any moment, but the repeated Israeli bombing of its Palestinian side prevented it from working.
He continued: “In these harsh circumstances, I agreed with the American President to operate the crossing in a sustainable manner, with full supervision and coordination with the United Nations, UNRWA, and the Palestine Red Crescent Society, and for aid to be distributed under the supervision of the United Nations to the residents of the Gaza Strip.”
He stressed that the world should not accept the use of humanitarian pressure to force displacement, and Egypt has affirmed and reiterated its complete rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians and their exodus to Egyptian lands in Sinai, as this aims to finally liquidate the Palestinian issue and end the dream of an independent Palestinian state and its waste. The struggle of the Palestinian people, the Arab and Islamic peoples, and even all free people in the world over the course of 75 years, that is, the lifespan of the Palestinian cause.
Sisi stressed that “the solution to the Palestinian issue is not displacement, but rather justice and the Palestinians’ access to the right to self-determination,” warning: “We are facing an unprecedented crisis that requires full attention to prevent the conflict from expanding in a way that threatens the stability of the region and international peace and security.”
p>Sisi said that he invited the leaders to attend in order to agree on a road map to end the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and revive the peace process between the Israelis and the Palestinians. He added that the goals of the road map include delivering aid to Gaza and agreeing on a ceasefire, followed by negotiations leading to a two-state solution.
