Yesterday, Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko accused his Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, of continuing the war in the Gaza Strip for the sake of his political survival, calling for the isolation of Israel to put an end to this “barbarism supported by some Western countries.”
Sonko said, during a rally that included hundreds in support of the Palestinians at the Grand Mosque in Dakar: “We have an (Israeli) prime minister whose authority depends on this war, and whose political survival depends on this war, and he is ready to walk over thousands of corpses to remain prime minister, and who In order not to face the justice of his country.”
He added, as he placed a scarf in the colors of the Palestinian flag around his neck: “We must gather everyone who denounces this injustice, and work towards a political solution, which consists of isolating the State of Israel, (the solution to) political isolation.”
The Senegalese Prime Minister, who believes that he is a leftist African nationalist, stressed that the matter is about “putting an end to this human barbarism that has been approved and supported by Western countries.”
He described the ongoing Israeli operations in the Palestinian territories as “genocide,” speaking about the “injustice” that the Palestinians have suffered since the establishment of Israel in 1948.
Sonko spoke of “many divisions” that prevent Muslims and Africans from “speaking with one voice” in confronting the crisis.
