Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Washington of escalating the war between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement.
Lavrov, who was speaking at a meeting in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Monday, considered that the current American military reinforcements in the Middle East threaten to “escalate” the war between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement.
Lavrov referred to the United States sending battleships to the Middle East, saying that “whenever a country takes similar preemptive measures, the risk of escalation of the conflict becomes great.”
He considered that the United States was “originally among the countries that exercised the greatest intervention” in this conflict.
At the same time, Lavrov stressed that the action of Washington and the European Union is necessary to reach a diplomatic settlement of the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
He said, "We must act on the basis of the joint capabilities of the countries of the region, the European Union, and perhaps the United States, as it is difficult to do without it."
The Russian Foreign Minister had participated in a meeting in Tehran with his Iranian, Turkish, Armenian and Azerbaijani counterparts, to discuss the tensions between Yerevan and Baku, seeking to find a settlement for them in isolation from Western countries.
Lavrov said that the meetings also discussed the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, and their positions were very close.
He added that Russia "does not accept any manifestation of terrorism or any manifestation of violence through violation of international humanitarian law, including the use of force indiscriminately."
