CNN quoted US officials as saying, “Washington has detected increasing Russian military activity around major submarine cables.”
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned the United States against joking about the "red lines" set by Russia, in response to a question about the possibility of delivering long-range American missiles to Ukraine.
Lavrov explained in his statements to a Russian television channel, that “Washington has lost the sense of mutual deterrence that has supported the security balance between Moscow and Washington since the Cold War, and this is a dangerous matter.”
He continued, "I will not be surprised by anything. The Americans have already crossed the threshold they set for themselves. They continue to incite, and Ukrainian President Zelensky, of course, sees this and exploits it."
Lavrov stressed that “Washington knows where these limits lie, but it is mistaken if it believes that the consequences of any escalation in the war in Ukraine will be borne mainly by Europe.”
He added, "They have an inherent belief that no one will touch them."
He pointed out that “this undermines all the principles that have supported strategic stability with Washington since the Soviet era.”
