Comoros President Gazali Ousmani was slightly injured today, Friday, as a result of a knife attack, according to what sources close to the presidency confirmed, while the government spokeswoman stressed that his life was not in danger after he was exposed to an “assault.”
A source close to the presidency, who requested to remain anonymous, reported that “President Razali Othmani was slightly injured with a knife during a funeral ceremony,” noting that “his wounds are not serious,” and that the two assailants were arrested.
Two other sources close to the presidency confirmed that Othmani’s injury was minor.
Ghazali Othmani is a politician and military man who has held the presidency of the Comoros since 2016.
Ousmani previously served as president from 1999 to 2002 and again from 2002 to 2006.
It is noteworthy that the Comoros archipelago consists of three islands, Grande Comore, Anjouan and Moheli, and has a population of 870 thousand people, 45% of whom live below the poverty line, according to the World Bank.
