Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said after his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Cairo, on Wednesday, that Egypt “will not allow any displacement towards Egyptian territory,” in reference to pushing the residents of northern Gaza to move south under the threat of Israeli bombing.
Sisi explained in a joint press conference with Macron that “the Israeli declared goal of liquidating Hamas requires very long years.”
He pointed out that "frustration and despair are reasons that prompted the current fighting between Israelis and Palestinians."
The Egyptian President added: “We do not want the current escalation in Gaza to spread to other areas.”
He continued: “I agreed with the French President to work to achieve calm and contain the escalation between Gaza and Israel.”
He stressed that “solving the Palestinian issue will reflect positively on the region,” revealing that Cairo is working to “release more prisoners held by Hamas.”
For his part, the French President announced that “we are doing everything in our power to avoid escalation in Gaza,” indicating that he “does not see any justification for Hamas’ attack on Israel.”
He added: “We are seeking a security and peace initiative that will avoid further escalation.”
Earlier, Al-Sisi received his French counterpart, Macron, at the Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo.
Macron arrived in Cairo from Jordan, where he held a meeting with Jordanian King Abdullah II in Amman, today, Wednesday, about the situation in Gaza.
King Abdullah II called on the world to “move immediately to stop the war in Gaza,” during his meeting with Macron.
A statement issued by the Royal Court said that King Abdullah assured Macron that “stopping the war on Gaza is an absolute necessity, and the world must move immediately in this direction.” He called on the international community to "move immediately to pressure Israel to stop the war, protect civilians, and break the siege on the Gaza Strip."
The King warned, during the meeting that took place at Al-Husseiniya Palace in Amman, of “the continuation of the war on the Gaza Strip, which may lead to an explosion in the situation in the region.”
