The US Treasury Department announced, on Wednesday, the imposition of sanctions on more than a dozen entities and ships due to their involvement in shipping Iranian crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas to Syria and East Asia on behalf of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and the Lebanese Hezbollah group.
The ministry said in a statement that four ships linked to a fleet belonging to Abdul Jalil Al-Mallah, a Syrian shipping industry tycoon whom the United States imposed sanctions on in 2021, and his brother Louay Al-Mallah, were among the ships included in Wednesday’s measures.
Loay Al-Mallah was added to the US sanctions list today, Wednesday.
The ministry explained that the brothers “continued to use their shipping empire to support Iran’s malicious activities and the activities of its agents.”
Treasury Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Bradley Smith said in the statement, “Iran continues to rely heavily on the illicit sale of oil and liquefied petroleum gas by the IRGC and Lebanese Hezbollah to fund its terrorist proxies and destabilizing activities.”
