Lebanese Hezbollah announced, today, Monday, in a statement that it attacked Israel using the “Noor missile,” which informed sources with the party say is a ballistic missile.
He said that he targeted the Kafr Giladi colony.
So what is the Noor missile?
Last year, Hezbollah unveiled its Nour anti-ship missiles, and released a video showing its available launchers for anti-ship missiles.
An Iranian statement had previously announced that the “Noor” missile, which is an Iranian anti-ship cruise missile, is originally Iranian-made and is a modified version of the Chinese C801 and C802 missiles, as the “Noor” missile is considered among the first models. In Iranian military industries, which the Iranian Armed Forces reviewed in 1991, its range ranges between 40 and 170 km, its length is 6.38 m, its diameter is 36 cm, and its weight is 715 kg, including 165 kg for the warhead, which is a solid-fuel missile.
According to the information, the speed of the missile is estimated at Mach 0.9, and it is intended to target boats or coastal platforms. It is also used on board the BH-7 helicopter, and other models equipped with Mil-17 helicopters and F-4 Phantom fighters.
The "Noor" missile is considered among the missiles that Iran supplies to its loyalist groups, such as the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Houthis in Yemen.
Hezbollah used Nour missiles to strike the Israeli Eilat-class cruiser Hanit in 2006. The latter was considered the most powerful ship belonging to the IDF Navy and was armed with aircraft and defense systems.
The use of the ballistic missile comes after a speech by Hezbollah's Deputy Secretary-General, Naim Qassem, who said that the group will choose a new Secretary-General to succeed Hassan Nasrallah "at the earliest opportunity" and pledged to continue the fight against Israel. He also confirmed that the party is ready to confront any Israeli ground incursion.
He added that the Iranian-backed group is continuing its operations and moving according to plans already drawn up, and described its attacks so far as being at a “minimum.” He stated that the battle might be long.
In a televised speech on Monday afternoon, Qassem stressed that the party would continue to “confront” Israel, “support” Gaza, and “respond” to the assassinations.
