The Arab League agreed, on Tuesday, to invite Iraq to hold an emergency meeting at the level of permanent delegates. To discuss the situation in Lebanon, coinciding with recent developments.
The university stated in a press statement: “Based on Iraq’s invitation, tomorrow, Thursday, we will hold an emergency meeting at the level of permanent delegates to discuss the humanitarian situation in Lebanon.”
She added, "Iraq called for holding a special session at the level of delegates of the member states of the League, to discuss the military escalation of the Zionist entity against the sisterly Republic of Lebanon, the humanitarian repercussions and how to help the displaced and refugees and deliver urgent medical and food aid to those affected there."
The university indicated that “the meeting will also discuss calling on the international community to stand with the Lebanese people and contribute with international organizations to deliver urgent aid as quickly as possible.”
Earlier on Monday, the Iraqi Ministry of Immigration and Displacement announced that it had received 114 Lebanese, including some wounded, on the border with Syria.
In addition, the Iraqi representative to the United Nations, Abbas Kazem Obaid, warned on Wednesday against “dragging the region into an all-out war.”
He said in his speech at the Security Council session that “failing to deter the crimes committed by Israel will drag the region into widespread conflicts,” according to what was reported by the official Iraqi News Agency.
The Iraqi delegate called for “issuing immediate and binding ceasefire decisions,” and pointed out that “the war has entered a new phase that threatens more killing and displacement, and its move to Lebanon and the possibility of its expansion constitutes a serious threat to the region.”
