The Ministry of Transport in Egypt issued a statement, on Sunday, regarding the accident of a tractor colliding with the back of a sleeper train coming from Aswan (south of the country) towards the capital, Cairo, which occurred in Minya Governorate and resulted in the death of at least one person.
According to the statement published by the Egyptian Prime Minister’s Facebook account, the Minister of Transport and Industry, Kamel Al-Wazir, confirmed that those responsible for the accident, whether they were drivers, tower observers, operating engineers, or the head of the region, will be referred to the Public Prosecution for investigation and holding them accountable. , with the aim of imposing severe penalties on them “commensurate with the severity of the crime they committed.”
The statement stressed that no wrongdoer will escape punishment, in order to achieve general deterrence.
On Sunday morning, the Minya Governorate in Upper Egypt witnessed a train accident that resulted in the death of one person and the injury of 21 others, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Health.
The Ministry explained that it recorded an improvement in the condition of 19 other injured people, and that they left the hospital after receiving the necessary treatment.
According to the same source, injured people are still under medical care at the health center, while rescue teams continue their efforts at the site of the accident.
The Minya Governorate in Upper Egypt witnessed, on Sunday morning, a train accident that injured 20 people, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Health.
The accident occurred on the railway line between Abu Qurqas and Minya stations, where a tractor collided with the rear of train No. 1087 during its journey from Aswan to Cairo.
For its part, the Railway Authority reported that the accident led to two cars falling from the train, one of them in the Ibrahimiyya Canal. The train was immediately separated from the two damaged carriages and allowed to continue its journey to Cairo.
It is noteworthy that the statement of the Egyptian Ministry of Transport, following the accident, stressed that the Ministry of Transport will take severe legal and disciplinary measures against “the neglected elements with all decisiveness with the aim of removing them from the railway system,” and that the Ministry has not and will not hide from holding accountable any person who caused a mistake, whether This error was the result of negligence, recklessness, or failure to observe the laws and regulations of the Railway Authority.
