The first summit of its kind was launched in the Belgian capital, Brussels, on Wednesday, bringing together leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and leaders of the European Union.
The summit is co-chaired by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in his capacity as Chairman of the current session of the Gulf Cooperation Council. The summit witnesses the participation of more than 30 heads of state and prime ministers, and the Saudi Crown Prince, Emir Mohammed bin Salman.
The European Union said in a statement that the summit represents an opportunity for the bloc to develop a closer partnership with the Gulf Cooperation Council and its member states.
In this summit, which culminates a strategic and historical relationship and a partnership that began more than three decades ago, each system, in addition to its vision for developing those relations, carries a hot file in its surroundings, which would affect it, and thus the horizon of its relations with the world, countries and regional organizations. .
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Al-Budaiwi, confirmed to the Oman News Agency that one of the two tracks of this summit relates to “regional and international issues, during which the Gulf Cooperation Council will pursue a clear and clear policy, based on international law, and encourages the language of dialogue, diplomacy, and de-escalation.” In areas experiencing unrest and conflicts.”
