The Israeli army announced today, Friday, that Israel is actively searching for Muhammad al-Sinwar, the brother of Hamas leader Yahya al-Sinwar, and all of the movement’s military leaders.
Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said, “The IDF will continue to operate in Gaza against Hamas and its infrastructure.”
He also denied that Israel is implementing the “general’s plan” to besiege northern Gaza, and said that the Israeli army has its own plans that follow international law.
Muhammad Al-Sinwar, brother of Hamas leader Yahya Al-Sinwar, served in the past as commander of the Khan Yunis Brigade of the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military arm of the Hamas movement, and was one of the kidnappers of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
Muhammad Al-Sinwar is considered the engineer of the Gaza tunnels, as he undertook the implementation of the largest projects in the Strip to build the underground tunnel network. He is also considered the potential successor to his brother in the leadership of the Hamas movement, as he is “very active and manages things,” according to the expression of the Hebrew media, which put him with Other Hamas leaders on the Israeli target list.
The Israeli army announced on the evening of Thursday, October 17, 2024, the assassination of the head of the Hamas political bureau, Yahya Sinwar, after a full year of chasing him.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also confirmed the killing of Sinwar, saying in a press conference, “The person who committed the most horrific massacre in the history of our nation was eliminated, but the war is not over yet, and we must recover the kidnapped ones.”
