Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met, on Tuesday, for approximately two and a half hours with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, following an expanded meeting with the participation of officials from both countries, according to a statement issued by Netanyahu’s office.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said after the talks that Blinken “stressed the necessity of taking advantage of Israel’s success” in eliminating Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar by reaching an agreement that “guarantees the release of all hostages and an end to the conflict in Gaza in a manner It provides sustainable security for Israelis and Palestinians alike.”
The killing of Sinwar creates an opportunity for other people to come who may work to negotiate the release of the hostages and a ceasefire, according to Holata
According to the Israeli statement, the issue of the Iranian threat and the need for the two countries to come together to confront it was raised during the meeting.
The Prime Minister thanked the US Secretary of State for supporting the United States in the war against the axis of evil and Iranian terrorism.
Netanyahu also briefed the US Secretary of State on the Israeli army’s activity in Lebanon, and the need for it to lead to security and political change in the north, allowing Israel to safely return residents to their homes.
The statement added that the US Secretary of State expressed the United States' "deep shock" over the Iranian attempt, through Hezbollah, to assassinate the Prime Minister of Israel.
Netanyahu stressed that eliminating Sinwar may have a positive impact on the return of the kidnapped people, achieving all the goals of the war, and the day after it.
For his part, Blinken urged the Israeli Prime Minister to “take advantage” of Sinwar’s killing, to move forward towards a truce in Gaza, and to allow more aid to enter the Strip.
