Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the White House for leaking secrets to the American media, after requesting American Tomahawk missiles, according to Politico newspaper.
Zelensky confirmed, during an interview with the media published yesterday, Wednesday, that he had asked the United States for long-range Tomahawk missiles to help defeat Russia.
But he expressed his dissatisfaction with the leaking of information to the New York Times, saying, “This was secret information between Ukraine and the White House. Does this mean that between the partners there is nothing secret?”
The Tomahawk missiles can fly up to 1,500 kilometers, and will allow Ukraine to strike targets deep inside Russia if the United States allows it, which is an essential part of Kiev's alleged victory plan to repel the Russian attack.
The New York Times indicated that senior American officials were not convinced that the Ukrainian leadership had presented a convincing case for how to use long-range missiles to turn the tide in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The officials added that the list of targets that Ukraine provided to the United States far exceeded the number of missiles that the US military could provide to Kiev, without endangering the potential requirements of the Middle East and Asia.
For its part, Politico quoted a well-informed Ukrainian official as saying that the plan that was presented was realistic, and the US Army had studied it and said it was realistic.
