Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the appointment of Israel Katz as Minister of Defense, replacing Yoav Galant, whom he suddenly dismissed on Tuesday evening.
Netanyahu disclosed the justifications for appointing Katz, who held the Foreign Ministry portfolio, and praised his firmness and clarity of his decisions, describing him as a “bulldozer.”
Netanyahu said: “Israel Katz has already proven his capabilities and contribution to national security as Foreign Minister, Finance Minister and Intelligence Minister for 5 years, and no less importantly, as a member of the Defense Political Council for many years.”
He added: “He brings with him an impressive combination of rich experience and executive ability. He is known as a bulldozer who combines responsibility and quiet toughness, all of which are very important.”
Netanyahu dismissed Defense Minister Yoav Galant from his position, due to the collapse of trust between them due to the war in the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu said in a statement, “Over the past months, trust has eroded. In light of this, I decided today to end the term of the Defense Minister.”
