The Kremlin said, on Wednesday, that it will judge Donald Trump, who declared victory in the US presidential elections, on the basis of his actions.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, “We will draw conclusions based on concrete steps and concrete words.”
He added that “he is not aware of President (Vladimir Putin)’s intention to congratulate Trump,” given that the United States is “an unfriendly country,” as he put it.
Trump announced early Wednesday that he had won the presidential election over his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris.
In a speech he delivered to his supporters in Florida, Trump said: “We wrote history tonight. Look at what happened, isn’t this crazy?”
During his speech, Trump thanked the audience and his supporters among the American people for electing him as “the 47th President of the United States,” as he put it.
He confirmed his victory in prominent states, including Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Alaska. “This will lead to us winning about 350 votes in the electoral college,” he said, noting that he also won the popular vote.
Trump also announced that his Republican Party had won the Senate, expressing his joy at the victory amid the applause of his supporters who had been waiting for his speech for long hours.
He said: “The victories are wonderful... No one expected this... I would like to thank you for that, and it seems that we will also maintain our control over the House of Representatives.”
Republicans succeeded in regaining control of the US Senate, after seizing two seats held by Democrats in the states of West Virginia and Ohio, according to the Associated Press.
In addition, Trump thanked his wife, Melania, for her support during his election campaign, and said: “I also thank all my wonderful family and children.”
Also, Trump thanked the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, who was among the first to announce his victory.
On the same occasion, Trump congratulated the vice presidential candidate, J.D. Vance, saying: “I would like to be the first to congratulate him,” before Vance took the floor to thank Republican voters in turn.
