Kamala Harris, US Vice President, Democratic presidential candidate, made a phone call to President-elect Donald Trump to congratulate him on winning the election.
Harris's call to Trump comes within the framework of a well-established tradition in the US presidential elections, where it is customary for the losing candidate to call the president-elect to congratulate him, in what is considered an admission of defeat.
However, Trump himself broke this tradition in 2020, as he did not contact Biden because he did not recognize the election results, which he insists were rigged.
Agence France-Presse quoted one of Harris' advisors as saying that she discussed with the president-elect the importance of the peaceful transfer of power and that he be a president for all Americans.
Former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump achieved a major victory over Harris in the presidential elections that took place yesterday, Tuesday.
As of 16:40 GMT, Trump had obtained 277 of the 538 Electoral College votes, surpassing Harris, who had 226 votes, while the votes required to achieve victory were 270 votes.
According to American media, Harris is preparing to deliver a speech in which she acknowledges her defeat at 21 GMT today, Wednesday.
