Tehran announced, on Sunday, that the Chief of the General Staff of the Saudi Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Fayyad bin Hamid Al-Ruwaili, will visit Iran today, Sunday, at the head of a high-level military delegation.
The Iranian official news agency (IRNA) said that Al-Ruwaili will meet with his counterpart, Mohammad Bagheri, to discuss the bilateral and defense relations of the two countries, according to what it reported from the public relations of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.
This visit comes after the election of former US President Donald Trump for a new presidential term starting in January 2025, during which he promised to achieve peace in the Middle East.
In December 2023, Bagheri held telephone discussions with Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, during which they discussed regional developments, raising the level of defense cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries, and important issues in the Islamic world.
In March of the same year, Tehran and Riyadh agreed, with Chinese mediation, to restore relations between them after seven years of hostility that threatened stability and security in the Gulf region and helped fuel conflicts in the Middle East from Yemen to Syria.
Last month, Saudi Arabia announced that it had recently conducted joint military exercises in the Arabian Sea with several countries, including Iran.
