Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva opened the G20 summit on Monday by launching a global alliance to combat poverty and hunger, which he described as “the result of political decisions.”
The Brazilian President said that the Global Alliance to Fight Hunger and Poverty “will be the greatest legacy of the G20,” adding during the opening of the summit in Rio de Janeiro that “the world needs urgent action to achieve justice and equality.”
Lula continued, saying that “the devastating effects of climate change can be seen around the world,” and urged leaders to “have the courage to act.”
He explained that “the anti-hunger initiative launched at the G20 summit includes 81 countries, 26 international organizations, and 9 financial institutions.”
The G20 Summit was launched in Brazil under the slogan “A Fair and Sustainable Planet”
