Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced that Iran is ready to consider sending its forces to Syria if it receives an official request from the Syrian government in Damascus. Araqchi confirmed in statements reported by Tasnim Agency, citing Qatari media, that Iran would be ready to study this option if it receives an official request from Damascus.
For his part, Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, confirmed in a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that Iraq will not stand idly by in the face of the dangerous repercussions of the situation in Syria. Al-Sudani stated that Iraq had previously been affected by terrorism as a result of extremist organizations controlling areas in Syria, stressing that he would not allow this situation to return. He also stressed the need to respect the unity and sovereignty of Syria, noting that Iraq will make every effort to protect its security and the security of Syria.
This comes at a time when Syria is witnessing major developments on the ground, as Syrian opposition militants led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham launched an attack on the city of Aleppo last Wednesday, and were able to control it, while attacks continued on the rural areas surrounding Idlib and Hama, which It resulted in a continuous retreat of the regime forces and the Iranian militias supporting it.
