Large quantities of Captagon... The collapse of the Assad regime reveals the "secrets" of the drug trade

Since the rapid collapse of Bashar's rule, large quantities of Captagon tablets have been found in various regions stored in warehouses or military bases.
This confirms the validity of the reports about Syria’s role in manufacturing this banned narcotic substance and exporting it to the world, according to “Agence France-Presse.”
Faction fighters seized military bases and distribution centers for amphetamine-based stimulants that flooded the black market throughout the Middle East.
Fighters from the coalition of armed factions led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham say they found a huge amount of drugs and pledged to destroy them.
In a warehouse in a quarry on the outskirts of Damascus, Captagon pills were hidden inside electrical components for export.
The fighter, Abu Malik al-Shami, who wore a black mask, said, “After we entered and conducted a combing operation, we found that the factory belonged to Maher al-Assad and his partner, Amer Khaiti.”
Bashar's brother was a military commander, and is now presumed to be a fugitive. He is widely accused of being responsible for the lucrative Captagon trade.
As for former member of the People’s Assembly, Amer Khaiti, the British government imposed sanctions on him, saying that he “controls many companies in Syria that facilitate the production and smuggling of drugs.”
In a garage below the warehouse and loading areas, thousands of beige Captagon pills were packed and hidden in the copper coils of new household electrical transformers.
Al-Shami said: “We found a large quantity of (electrical) tools inside which were placed bags of Captagon pills intended for smuggling out of the country.” He added that there is “a large amount of it that cannot be counted.”
In the warehouse above, cardboard boxes were ready to conceal the pills as a load of regular cargo, along with a large quantity of caustic soda packed in white bags.
Caustic soda, or sodium hydroxide, is an essential ingredient in the production of methamphetamine, which is a stronger and more dangerous substance than amphetamine.
Behind the smoldering pile, in a ransacked Air Force building, were other quantities of Captagon along with other illicit exports, including impotence drugs and badly counterfeit $100 bills.
A fighter from Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, using the nom de guerre "Khattab", said at the Mezzeh military airport: "When we entered here we found a large quantity of Captagon. So we destroyed it and burned it. It is a huge quantity."
He added: “We destroyed it because it is harmful to people. It harms health, it harms nature and people.”
