Iraq: The situation in Syria is complex

Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, confirmed on Monday that the situation in Syria is complex, with different armed groups controlling multiple areas.
This came during a telephone call made by the Iraqi minister with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, on Wednesday evening.
Hussein said that ISIS began to reorganize its ranks, taking advantage of the chaos resulting from the collapse of the Syrian army and the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces to the east of the Euphrates River.
He stressed the importance of securing the prisons that house hundreds of ISIS members and leaders, and the necessity of finding an urgent solution to Al-Hawl camp, which houses the organization’s families and former members.
