Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati confirmed today (Tuesday) his country's commitment to the terms of the ceasefire understanding between Hezbollah and Israel, accusing Israel of continuing its violations.
Mikati demanded, during a meeting of the Lebanese government, an end to the Israeli violations and immediate withdrawal from the border areas into which it had penetrated, explaining that this was unacceptable.
He pointed out that his tour in the south yesterday demonstrated the extent of the need to enhance stability to enable southerners to return to their villages, stressing the need for the committee to exert pressure on Israel to implement the terms of the understanding.
The meeting was attended by the Commander of the Lebanese Army, General Joseph Aoun, and the technical committee to monitor the ceasefire in the south. The committee included the Chairman of the Committee, American General Jasper Jeffers, and the members, French General Guillaume Ponchan, the Commander of the South Litani Sector in the Lebanese Army, Brigadier General Edgar Lowndes, and the Commander of the International Forces operating in South General Araldo Lazaro.
The Israeli army had announced earlier today the confiscation of more than 84,000 weapons of various types for Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, most of which were discovered in civilian areas inside, next to and below homes
