On Friday, negotiations will resume in the Qatari capital, Doha, between representatives of Israel and the Hamas movement with the aim of reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and returning the Israeli hostages held in the Strip.
Israeli Channel 13 reported that Israel is awaiting a response from Hamas, while adding that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to an “sufficient mandate” for the Israeli negotiating delegation in Doha.
For its part, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that “the mediators are trying to find solutions to Israel’s demand to obtain a list of the names of living Israeli prisoners.”
On the other hand, the Hamas movement declared its “seriousness and positivity and its endeavor to reach an agreement as soon as possible in a way that achieves the aspirations and goals of the people, the most important of which is stopping the aggression and protecting the people in light of the genocide and ethnic cleansing practiced by the occupation.”
The movement indicated that this round “will focus on the agreement leading to a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of the occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, the implementation details, and the return of the displaced to their homes from which they were expelled in all areas of the Strip.”
Hamas' most prominent condition in negotiations with Israel has always been a complete ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
For his part, White House spokesman John Kirby said on Friday that his country welcomes sending the Israeli negotiating team to Doha.
He added that Washington believes that “reaching an agreement to release the hostages and ceasefire in Gaza is urgent and possible, and we call on Hamas to agree to the agreement.”
