The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) confirmed that the operations carried out by Israeli forces north of the Blue Line that separates the two countries are continuing, and today, Saturday, it announced the documentation of a new Israeli violation.”
She said in a statement, “This morning, peacekeepers saw an Israeli army bulldozer destroying a blue barrel that represents the line of withdrawal between Lebanon and Israel in Labouneh, as well as a watchtower belonging to the Lebanese Armed Forces next to a UNIFIL site in the area.”
The statement also continued by saying, “The deliberate and direct destruction by the Israeli army of clearly identifiable UNIFIL property and infrastructure belonging to the Lebanese Armed Forces constitutes a flagrant violation of Resolution 1701 and international law.”
The statement called on all parties to avoid any actions, including the destruction of property and civilian infrastructure, that would jeopardize the cessation of hostilities.
At the end of last December, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) called for Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon on time, pointing to what it described as Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement reached with the Iranian-backed Hezbollah group in November 27.
With American mediation, Israel and Hezbollah reached an agreement on a ceasefire for a period of 60 days. The agreement stipulated that the Israeli army would withdraw in stages after more than a year of war, in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolution in 2006, which ended the last major conflict between the two parties.
