The Israeli army announced, on Monday, that five of its soldiers were killed in battles in the northern Gaza Strip, while eight others were injured.

This brings to 408 the number of deaths among the Israeli army since the start of the ground attack on Hamas in the Gaza Strip on October 27, 2023.

The names of the dead soldiers are as follows:

Captain Yair Yaakov Shushan, 23 years old, from Ma'alot-Tarshiha

Sergeant Yahav Hadar, 20 years old, from Kfar Tavor

Sgt. Guy Karmiel, 20 years old, from Gedera

Sergeant Yoav Pfeffer, 19 years old, from Herzliya

Sergeant Avil Wiseman, 20, of Peoria

According to the statement, the dead soldiers all served in the reconnaissance unit in the Nahal Brigade, noting that 10 other soldiers were injured in the incident, eight of them in serious condition.

The IDF did not immediately reveal the circumstances of the fatal accident.

This comes as Abu Ubaida, spokesman for the military wing of the Hamas movement, said that fighters from the movement attacked Israeli forces in the region, killing at least ten soldiers and wounding dozens during the past 72 hours. On Saturday, Israel confirmed the killing of four of its soldiers.
