The Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday that the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza will see Hamas release 33 Israeli detainees in exchange for 1,890 Palestinians.
The Ministry expressed, in a statement, its hope that the agreement would be the beginning of a path that requires concerted regional and international efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Egypt called on the international community, especially the United States, to support and consolidate the agreement and the permanent ceasefire. It also urged the international community to provide all humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, and to develop an urgent plan for the reconstruction of Gaza.
The statement stressed “the importance of accelerating the development of a road map to rebuild confidence between the two sides, in preparation for their return to the negotiating table, settling the Palestinian issue, within the framework of the two-state solution, and establishing an independent Palestinian state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital.”< /p>
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry indicated its commitment to coordinating with partners: Qatar and the United States, to work to fully implement the terms of the ceasefire agreement through the joint operations room, based in Egypt. To follow up on the exchange of detainees and prisoners, the entry of humanitarian aid and the movement of individuals after the resumption of work at the Rafah crossing.
