Amid the ongoing war between Israel and the Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip for more than a month, the death toll numbers have shocked the entire world, especially children.
In this context, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Rula Dashti, revealed in statements on Friday that “during a period of just over 4 weeks, the number of children killed in Gaza, estimated at 4,300 children, exceeded the total number of children.” who died in armed conflict in 22 countries in any year since 2020.

One child every 10 minutes
It is noteworthy that the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, told the United Nations Security Council on Friday that a child is killed on average every 10 minutes in the Gaza Strip, warning that “no place is safe and no one is safe.”
He also added that half of Gaza's 36 hospitals and two-thirds of primary health care centers are not working, and that those that are still operating are far beyond their capacity, describing the health care system as "on the verge of collapse."
He also told the 15-member council: “Hospital corridors are crowded with the wounded, sick and dying. The morgues are overcrowded. Surgical operations without anesthesia. Tens of thousands of displaced people are taking shelter in hospitals.”
Thousands of deaths
It is noteworthy that on October 7, Hamas launched a surprise attack during which its members infiltrated Israeli military bases through the separation fence and attacked border settlements on the Gaza Strip. According to a new Israeli toll, this led to the death of 1,200 people and the kidnapping of 239 hostages.
Israel has responded since then with intense bombing of the Gaza Strip and a ground operation launched on October 27, which has so far resulted in the deaths of 11,078 people, most of them civilians, and the injury of 27,490, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza.
