European Union foreign and security policy official Josep Borrell called today (Sunday) for an immediate humanitarian truce and the establishment of humanitarian corridors that include a sea route to bring aid into the Gaza Strip, calling on Israel to exercise the utmost restraint to ensure the protection of civilians.
Borrell said in a statement that the European Union is deeply concerned about the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stressing that the hostilities in Gaza are severely affecting hospitals and causing heavy losses among civilians and medical staff.
He added: International humanitarian law stipulates that hospitals, medical supplies, and civilians inside them must be protected, stressing the need to immediately provide hospitals with the necessary medical supplies and safely evacuate patients who need urgent care.
The spokesman for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, Ashraf Al-Qudra, confirmed that the occupation army renewed its bombardment on the vicinity of Al-Shifa Hospital in western Gaza and its courtyards, explaining that Israel targeted a number of displaced people from Al-Shifa Hospital, and its army continues its sniping operations in its vicinity.
The spokesman considered the occupation’s offer to supply Al-Shifa Hospital with 200 liters of diesel “a disdain.”
