Washington imposes new sanctions on the Iranian oil sector

The US Treasury imposed on Thursday new sanctions related to the oil and petrochemical sectors in Iran and included one individual and a number of entities and ships.
The Ministry of Treasury said on its official website that the sanctions included the China -based "Tipot" oil refinery, in addition to its CEO, Wang Xuha Qing, due to the purchase and refining of Iranian crude oil with a value of up to hundreds of millions of dollars.
The sanctions also included 19 entities and ship responsible for shipping millions of barrels of Iranian oil, and it is part of the Iranian "shadow fleet" that transports oil.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Payette said that "Tibbut's Tibbut refinery purchases are the main economic artery of the Iranian regime, which is the largest sponsor of terrorism in the world."
He added that "the United States is committed to cutting the sources of revenue that enables Tehran to continue to finance terrorism and develop its nuclear program."
Iran uses wide networks of tankers and ship management companies to export oil, according to the Treasury, as it resorted to tactics such as forgery in documents and disrupting ship tracking systems.
The sanctions prohibit all the property and interests of these entities in the United States, and it also prohibits dealing with these parties by American or resident people in the United States, with the imposition of civil or criminal fines on violators.
