The Trump administration announces a new reason for rejecting immigration requests

The administration of President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that it will start immediately by considering "anti -Semitic activity" on social media, as well as physical harassment of Jews, a reason for refusing to grant immigration advantages.
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services Department stated that it will start examining the activity of applicants for immigration on social media, including those applicants to obtain permanent residence (green card), foreign students and persons associated with educational institutions "linked to anti -Semitic activities."
This guidance will enter into force immediately, according to the statement.
This announcement came after a notification issued last month about a proposal from the Ministry of Internal Security to collect social media accounts from people applying for advantages such as residency or nationality, in compliance with Executive order from Trump. The public and federal agencies were in front of May 5 to make their notes.
This proposal raised the concern of defenders of immigrant rights and freedom of expression, because it seems that it expands the scope of government monitoring of social media to include people whose backgrounds have already been verified and legalized in the United States, and not only those who seek to enter the country.
However, social media monitoring by immigration officials is a practice that has been in place for more than a decade, at least since the second administration of President Barack Obama, and has increased during the Trump era.
