The United Nations plans to significantly reduce the number of its employees

The United Nations issued orders to more than 60 of its offices, agencies and operations to submit proposals by mid -June to reduce 20 percent of its employees, as part of a major reform voltage to enhance operations in the face of a critical financing crisis.
UN spokesman Stephen Dujarric told reporters on Friday that the cuts affect about 14 thousand jobs covered by the regular budget, or about 2,800 jobs.
These cuts include employees in the United Nations political and humanitarian offices and their agencies that help refugees and enhance gender equality and deal with international trade, the environment and cities.
The United Nations Support Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) is also on the list.
United Nations observer Chandramuli Ramanathan said in a note to the affected agencies that employee discounts are part of the goal of the Secretary -General Antonio Guterres to achieve a reduction between 15 and 20 percent in the current United Nations budget of $ 72.3 billion.
