The authorities announced, through the head of the State Information Service, on Saturday, that they had received positive signals from all parties regarding extending the truce in the Gaza Strip for a day or two.
Dia Rashwan, head of the State Information Service, said in a statement that Egypt is holding intensive talks with all parties to reach an agreement “to extend the truce between the Israeli and Palestinian sides for an additional day or two, which means the release of more detainees in Gaza and Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.” ", as reported by Reuters.
On Saturday, the implementation of the procedures for the second batch of the exchange deal between Israel and Hamas, which was brokered by Egypt, Qatar and the United States, began: 42 Palestinian prisoners, in exchange for 14 Israeli detainees.
The first day of the scheduled four-day truce, during which the shooting has ceased so far, witnessed Hamas releasing 13 detainees of Israeli women and children, some of whom hold another nationality, in exchange for Israel releasing 39 detainees of women and minors.
Hamas also released 10 Thais and one Filipino among those detained in Gaza, in what it considered a “gesture” not included in the agreement.
The truce, which entered into force on Friday, stipulates a cessation of fighting for 4 days, and Hamas’s release of 50 of its detainees in exchange for Israel’s release of 150 Palestinian prisoners, and the entry of aid and fuel shipments into the besieged Gaza Strip.
