The Israeli army admitted, on Tuesday evening, that its forces fought their fiercest battles with Palestinian fighters today in the impoverished and besieged Gaza Strip, shortly after Hamas announced a series of attacks that left dozens of dead and wounded among the ranks of the Israeli forces.
The commander of the Israeli army's Southern Command, General Yaron Finkelman, said that his forces are engaged in their fiercest day of battle since the start of the ground operation in Gaza at the end of last October, according to what Reuters reported from him.
Palestinian factions had confirmed this matter earlier today, noting “fierce battles” in several areas, from Jabalia in the north to the Shujaiya neighborhood east of Gaza City, to the east of Khan Yunis in the south of the Strip.
The Al-Quds Brigades, the military arm of the Jihad movement, said that its fighters were fighting fierce battles “from zero distance” in Khan Yunis.
It published video clips showing its fighters firing light and medium weapons at Israeli forces, and in other clips its fighters were firing RPGs and mortar shells.
As for the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military arm of the Hamas movement, it was reported that it carried out a series of attacks against the Israeli forces penetrating Gaza, the vast majority of which were concentrated east of Khan Yunis.
These vehicles were tanks, troop carriers, and bulldozers.
The Qassam weapon used to target these vehicles was “Al-Yassin 105” shells, consisting of two explosive warheads.
The Brigades stated on their official account on the Telegram application that they targeted at least 17 military vehicles in Khan Yunis alone.

The Al-Qassam Brigades said that its fighters were able to “finish off 10 Zionist soldiers and kill them from zero distance in the axis east of the city of Khan Yunis.”
It added that its fighters targeted an Israeli special force of 8 soldiers with an anti-personnel missile, achieving a direct hit in the axis east of the city of Khan Yunis.
It was reported that its fighters shot 6 Israeli soldiers with Qassam rifles in the Al-Zana area in the eastern axis of the city of Khan Yunis, injuring them with certain injuries.
Since the start of the Israeli ground attack in late last October, 80 Israeli soldiers have been killed, and in total 405 soldiers have been killed since October 7, when Hamas launched a sudden and unprecedented attack on the Hebrew state, according to official Israeli figures.
Both parties confirm the intensity of the clashes
Since the collapse of a week-long truce on Friday, Israel has rapidly pushed into the southern half of Gaza.
Two days ago, Israel announced the launch of a ground attack in the southern Gaza Strip, after saying that operations in northern Gaza were about to end.
An Israeli government spokesman stressed that fighting in the second phase of the war will be “difficult,” referring to the ground operation in the southern Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian and Israeli sides confirmed earlier that the clashes were severe in Khan Yunis.
Israeli Army Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevy, said in a statement: “We fought fierce fighting in the northern Gaza Strip, and we are now doing the same in its south.”
As for the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military arm of the Hamas movement, it confirmed that it is engaged in fierce clashes with the Israeli army, as well as the Al-Quds Brigades, the military arm of the Jihad movement, which confirmed that its fighters are engaged in fierce clashes in the axes of advance north and east of the city of Khan Yunis.
