US President Joe Biden said, on Sunday, that a drone attack on American forces stationed in northern Jordan near the border with Syria killed 3 American soldiers and wounded others, while the Jordanian government denied that the attack had occurred within its territory.
p>The Jordanian government spokesman told Al-Sharq that the Al-Tanf base that was attacked is not in Jordan, and is located on the triangle of the Jordanian-Syrian-Iraqi border, indicating that it is a small base, not within the country’s borders, and does not fall within the jurisdiction of the Jordanian army.< /p>
Biden added in a statement: “While we are still gathering facts about this attack, we know that it was carried out by Iranian-backed extremist armed groups, which operate from Syria and Iraq.”
The US President pledged to hold all those responsible for the attack accountable “at the time and in the manner determined by the United States,” indicating that his administration will continue its commitment to “fighting terrorism.”
The US Army Central Command said in a statement that “the attack that targeted a base in northern Jordan claimed the lives of 3 American soldiers, while 25 others were injured.”
CNN reported on Sunday, quoting American officials, that 3 American soldiers were killed and more than 20 others were injured in a drone attack on an American military site in Jordan.
She stated that the American site is located near the border with Syria, noting that the attack represents a “dangerous escalation” of the already tense situation in the Middle East.
This is the first time that American soldiers have been killed by hostile fire in the Middle East since the start of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
