White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan warned today that the Ukrainian army is running out of ammunition, as Republicans in Congress obstruct a massive aid package requested by the Democratic administration of President Joe Biden.
Sullivan urged the House of Representatives, which is controlled by Republicans, to follow the Senate's example and approve the multi-billion-dollar aid package as soon as possible.
Sullivan told reporters during a briefing at the White House: “We cannot wait any longer,” stressing that the Ukrainian people and the national security interests of the United States of America are paying the price every day.
He added: “The risks are increasing. The price of inaction also increases every day,” he said, noting that reports were increasingly received of Ukrainian forces rationing or even running out of ammunition on the front lines.
He continued: “Russian forces continue their attacks, whether on land, or by trying to exhaust Ukrainian air defenses,” stressing that the United States’ allies and enemies are “watching this closely.”
The National Security Advisor's statements came a day after Biden sent a televised speech to Republicans in the House of Representatives urging them to pass the bill.
Biden also denounced the “stupid” statements made by the most likely candidate to compete in this year’s presidential elections, Donald Trump, when he said that he would encourage Russia to attack members of NATO if they did not fulfill their financial obligations.
The new Supreme Commander of the Ukrainian Army, Oleksandr Sersky, said earlier today that the situation on the front with Russia is “very complex”
