Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated during his speech at the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday that the world is very close to World War III.
Aliyev said: “Everyone sees the processes taking place in the world today. The world is actually very close to World War III. Some believe that World War III has already begun, there may be different assumptions. And of course modern wars are different from previous wars. World War II cannot even be compared to today's wars.
He added: “Naturally, many countries today have begun to take an interest in the military field. We have been doing this for more than 20 years, and the experience that we have today, including combat experience, is irreplaceable.”
He stressed that the Azerbaijani army “demonstrated its strength not in training or in parades, but on the battlefield.”
Yesterday, Aliyev took the constitutional oath for a fifth term, promising, when exercising his powers as president, to abide by the constitution, defend the state’s independence and territorial integrity, and serve the people worthy.
Aliyev, 62 years old, won the early presidential elections that took place in the country on February 7, outperforming his competitors by a large margin of votes.
