US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken warned Israel today (Saturday) not to exploit the exceptional opportunity to integrate it into the region, stressing the necessity of establishing a Palestinian state in order to achieve sustainable security in the region.
Blinken said during a panel discussion at the annual Munich Security Conference: There is an urgent need more than ever to move forward with the establishment of a Palestinian state, which also guarantees the security of Israel.
He added, “Israel may be safe now, but is it safe in the long term? This is a difficult question: How do we ensure that this cycle of violence will not be repeated again in another five or 10 years? “He called on Israel to seize this opportunity in order to end the cycle of violence.
Blinken pointed out that “there are real efforts led by Arab countries to revitalize the Palestinian Authority, so that it can be more effective in representing the Palestinians and to be a partner with Israel in the future of the region.”
He pointed out that the establishment of a Palestinian state has become more urgent than ever before, considering that achieving this will make the region safer than ever.
This came at a time when the US State Department confirmed in a statement that Secretary Anthony Blinken informed Israeli President Isaac Herzog that Washington cannot support a ground military operation in Rafah without a reliable and implementable plan to ensure the safety of more than a million displaced people crowded there.< /p>
The ministry explained in a statement that Blinken stressed to Herzog the need for all parties to take possible measures to protect civilian lives and prevent the expansion of the conflict, and Washington’s commitment to permanent peace in the Middle East, including the establishment of a Palestinian state while ensuring the security of Israel.
Blinken had recently asked the State Department to conduct a review and present political options regarding possible American and international recognition of the Palestinian state after the end of the war on Gaza, according to what the Axios website reported.
