The tragedy of a girl named Habiba Al-Shamaa preoccupies public opinion in Egypt after she threw herself from a car belonging to a famous delivery company, for fear of being kidnapped by the driver.
According to Egyptian media, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi intervened in the case and contacted the girl’s family to check on her condition.
The victim's mother, Dina Ismail, said in statements to the Egyptian Channel 1 that she thanks the Egyptian President for his personal contact with the family and his announcement of providing all necessary assistance to treat their daughter, noting that Sisi informed them of the possibility of transferring her for treatment abroad if necessary.
The Egyptian Ministry of Interior had revealed the circumstances of the accident that occurred in the assembly area east of Cairo and shocked Egyptians.
She said in a statement, that one of the eyewitnesses reported that he “saw the girl, while he was walking on the Suez Road, jumping out of the back door of a car, so he stopped to help her, and she informed him that she was riding in the car belonging to a smart transportation application, and when the car driver tried to oppose her, she jumped out of the vehicle.” For fear of him harassing her, she was taken to the hospital.”
The Ministry announced that the driver had been identified and arrested, and it was found that he resides in Giza Governorate. However, he denied kidnapping Habiba, explaining that he closed the car windows and sprayed perfume, but he was surprised by the girl’s strange behavior.
He confirmed that she jumped out of the car, but he continued walking and did not stop for fear of being harmed, according to him.
While the company's official spokesperson commented on the incident, it feels deeply saddened by what happened and is cooperating with the investigating authorities to ensure that all necessary measures are taken.
He added that its accident response team is in contact with the passenger’s family, adding that the company is always committed to providing safe and reliable flights for passengers, and its guidelines prohibit any violence or inappropriate behavior, and any behavior of this kind is treated with all seriousness.
However, the victim’s family rejected the company’s statement and considered it “a lie and unfounded allegations.”
