Tasnim Agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, reported on Sunday that the country’s authorities carried out the death sentence against an “agent” of the Israeli intelligence service “Mossad” who carried out an attack on a military facility in Isfahan.
The agency reported that the Mossad “agent” was planning to bomb a Defense Ministry complex in Isfahan, south of the capital, Tehran, on February 28 of last year, “under the direction” of an officer in the Israeli service.
Last January, the Iranian authorities executed four Kurdish political opponents, on charges of planning bombing operations in Isfahan.
The announcement of the execution comes amid controversy in the country due to the record abstention in the Iranian parliamentary elections.
In turn, the government ISNA agency reported that “the agent was arrested 13 days after leaving the country, with judicial coordination and the efforts of officers of the Ministry of Intelligence and the Revolutionary Guard, in one of the neighboring countries,” without providing details.
p>The agency referred to a thwarted attack on a military industries facility in the city of Isfahan in the center of the country, at the end of January last year.
According to the Iranian account, “one of the main agents communicated with Mossad agents via the Internet,” indicating that he carried out operations for the Mossad for three years, without specifying the nature of those attacks.
The agency said that he “was preparing to carry out larger attacks,” noting that he rented a warehouse, bought a small freight car, three other cars, and a number of marches after entering the country.
At that time, reports stated that an attack by three drones targeted an industrial center affiliated with the Ministry of Defense, and Iran said that “mercenaries of the Zionist regime” carried out the attack, and that it failed.
Later, the Wall Street Journal said that Israel carried out a secret drone strike against a military complex in Isfahan. The Jerusalem Post newspaper said, “The drone attack on Iran in Isfahan achieved tremendous success, despite Iranian claims.”
After the January attack, a tweet published by an advisor to the Ukrainian president angered Tehran. Mikhailo Podolyak said in a tweet: “The logic of war is merciless and deadly.” The official and the accomplice will be held firmly accountable... An explosive night in Iran... Production of drones, missiles, and oil refineries. We warned you.
The same facility was subjected to another attack, on April 4 last year. The Revolutionary Guards media reported that “the Commander of the Faithful Complex, affiliated with the Ministry of Defense in Isfahan, was the target of a failed attack with a small drone that was thwarted by defense systems,” adding that the attempt did not result in any damage.
Israel and Iran have been waging a “shadow war” for years, by air, land and sea, and it also includes electronic attacks.
Israel has continued to target military and nuclear sites inside Iran, and assassinated scientists and officials responsible for the Iranian nuclear project, inside and outside the country
