Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, called on Monday for the expulsion of European Union ambassadors to Moscow and the downgrading of diplomatic relations due to their refusal to meet with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Medvedev wrote on his account on the “X” platform: “The ambassadors of the European Union countries to Russia refused to meet with the Russian Foreign Minister (Sergei Lavrov), and this allegedly came after Brussels gave them some advice.”
He added: “This completely contradicts the idea of the existence of diplomatic missions and the appointment of ambassadors... In fact, all these ambassadors must be expelled from Russia, and the level of diplomatic relations must be reduced.”
The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council concluded by saying: “These are not ambassadors, but political idiots who do not understand their real duties,” adding a phrase in Latin: “Europe is dead. Glory to the rulers” (Europa mortua est. Gloria magistratus).
Earlier, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that he had invited the ambassadors of European Union countries to a meeting to provide clarifications before the start of the Russian presidential elections, but they refused to attend two days before the meeting.
