Activist Adeeb Abdel Qader Al Kathiri called on the Department of Industry and Trade and the Department of Works in Seiyun to quickly submit the file of the case of trafficking in humanitarian relief to the Public Prosecution so that it can investigate the incidents and legal violations that have been seized, and refer the case to court to impose deterrent legal penalties.
The aforementioned activist said that this incident was officially proven and documented with photographs inside the local company’s warehouses, and stressed that what the aforementioned bodies did in closing the warehouse of that company in which these violations were detected does not amount to putting an end to those manipulating people’s livelihood in light of the stifling living crisis that is affecting them. The country is experiencing, and he also expressed in his request the state of popular discontent in Wadi Hadhramaut that accompanied the crime of kidnapping the whistleblower in the incident of trafficking in humanitarian relief by members of a local company.
In this context, lawyer Taher Baabad revealed the incidents of kidnapping and assault that the victim who reported a case of trafficking in humanitarian relief was subjected to. He said that the victim, named (M.G.A.), was subjected to the interception of his car on the evening of Saturday, September 23, 2023 AD. A green truck and a car, Ravor, forced him to stop next to the old National Electricity Company (Bahbeshi Electricity). A number of people got out of the cars and beat him. He was shocked with an electric taser, then placed inside the truck bed and taken to another place.
He added, some of the perpetrators took the victim’s car to the location of their estate (residence) and damaged it. A sum of money estimated at three hundred thousand Yemeni riyals, a personal mobile device, and a Turkish pistol were taken from inside the victim’s car, and there the assault on the victim continued until the early hours of dawn. As the shouting and chaos grew louder, a security personnel passed by, who intervened in an attempt to release the victim to no avail, and the perpetrators did not listen to him. Here, the security personnel took the initiative to contact joint operations, which directed a national force to the site to initiate the release of the victim and rescue him. They arrested three of them. The perpetrators are still searching for the others, and while the perpetrators claim that they caught the victim stealing diesel from their trucks, this is something unimaginable to reason or logic.
Lawyer Taher Baabad concluded his statement by emphasizing that the victim had previously been exposed to direct threats when he informed the competent authorities about a week ago about the legal violations related to tampering with humanitarian relief materials, following which a team from the competent authorities descended, proved the violations, and closed the warehouse, and that was followed by about a week. The crime was committed against him.
It is worth noting that an official source had reported earlier that an official in the local company confirms that the food supplies allocated for humanitarian relief stored in the company’s warehouses belong to an (unnamed) region of Ma’rib Governorate within the framework of public relations,
