On Monday, March 25, 2024, the UN Security Council adopted an immediate ceasefire resolution in Gaza, provided that the ceasefire takes place during the month of Ramadan and then a permanent ceasefire. The resolution also called for the immediate and unconditional release of the hostages.

The United States of America abstained from voting, despite disrupting the previous session held last Friday to decide on a ceasefire by using its veto.
For his part, US Secretary of State Blinken said that the Security Council resolution on Gaza confirms the United States’ position that a ceasefire for any duration comes as part of the comprehensive peace agreement.
