The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Martin Griffiths, confirmed that we have reached a terrible stage in Gaza, after six months of war, stressing that what is happening in Gaza is a betrayal of humanity.
Griffiths added, “For the people of Gaza, the past six months of war have brought death and destruction and now Gaza is on the brink of a shameful man-made famine.”
The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs continued that every day this war claims more civilian casualties and every second that the war continues a blurry picture of the future forms, stressing the necessity of an end to this war, but the reality on the ground is different and there is the possibility of more... Escalation in Gaza, where no one is safe and nowhere safe to go, and an already fragile aid operation continues to be undermined by bombing, insecurity and denied access.
He pointed out that rarely has there been such global outrage over the toll of conflicts, while at the same time so little effort has been made to end them, and instead there is so much impunity.
He concluded by saying, “It is not enough for six months of war to be a moment of remembrance and mourning, but it must also stimulate collective determination to hold this betrayal of humanity accountable.”
