The incident came just two days after a knife attack in a mall in eastern Sydney that killed 6 people.
Live footage showed the attack that took place on Monday during a mass in an Assyrian church west of the city, when a man approached the altar, raised his right arm and stabbed the priest with a knife, and the attacker was speaking in Arabic, which sparked panic among the worshipers who began screaming.
The ambulance service told AFP that four men between the ages of 20 and 70 were receiving treatment for injuries.
Local media reported that the incident occurred in the Church of the Good Shepherd.
The stabbing was broadcast live on the church's Facebook account, where the footage showed Father Mar Mary Emmanuel being attacked with a knife in his face while delivering a sermon on the Assyrian Bible, at seven o'clock in the evening, local time.
