The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said that Israel decided to respond “decisively and clearly” to the attack carried out by Iran on Saturday evening.
The commission stated, quoting officials: “The political and security leadership in Israel decided to respond clearly and decisively, and the goal will be to confirm that Israel will not allow the Iranians to create the new equation that they have been trying to create in recent days.”
She said that the response would be in a way that would not lead to the region igniting and leading it to war, and would also be acceptable to the United States. She added that Israel is currently working to form a regional alliance alongside the international alliance, adding: “Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy are active in the talks in this regard.”
She continued: “Israel, specifically the air force that is expected to bear responsibility for implementing the response, is currently completing preparations for what can be done.” The authority indicated that the plans already existed, and that they were prepared hypothetically two years ago.
The broadcaster added: “There are also non-war options that would harm the Iranians to the same extent. The Council of Ministers will have to decide how to act.”
Tehran fired hundreds of missiles and drones, on the night of Saturday - Sunday, at Israel in response to the bombing of its consulate in Damascus on April 1, in an attack it attributed to the Hebrew state.
Israeli air defenses, with the help of the United States and other allies, were able to intercept the majority of these missiles and drones.
Pledge to respond
In a related context, the Israeli Army Chief of Staff, Herzi Halevi, pledged, on Monday, to “respond” to Iran’s unprecedented attack on Israel, in a speech to his soldiers at a base that was hit during the Iranian attack.
General Halevy said during his visit to the Nevatim base in the south of the country that Israel “will respond to the launching of this very large number of rockets, cruise missiles and drones on the territory of the State of Israel.”
The army broadcast a short video clip showing a shallow hole along a wall, resulting from an Iranian projectile as it landed on the military base.
Later, army spokesman Daniel Hagari said from the same base: “We are doing everything necessary to protect the State of Israel, and we will do so on the occasion and time that we choose.”
