Colombia severed diplomatic relations with Israel, due to its actions in the Gaza Strip.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced on Wednesday that his country would sever diplomatic relations with Israel tomorrow, and he also strongly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Colombian president requested that his country join South Africa's lawsuit before the International Court of Justice, in which Israel is accused of committing genocide.
Petro, in front of crowds in the capital, Bogota, repeated his assertion that his country would sever diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv, because of its government’s tendency toward genocide.
With this step, Colombia joins Bolivia in the decision to sever diplomatic relations with Israel, as the latter was the first country to take this step, which was met with sharp Israeli criticism at the time.
At the beginning of March, Colombia suspended the purchase of weapons from Israel, in protest against the events that killed more than 100 Palestinians as they gathered to obtain aid in northern Gaza, which Bogota described as an “aid massacre.”
