In an exciting and dangerous development, an Israeli media report revealed that a bomb weighing half a ton fell from an Israeli warplane by mistake on a town within the settlements surrounding Gaza.
Israeli Army Radio reported on Friday that “a half-ton bomb belonging to the Israeli Air Force accidentally fell on the town of Yatid in the Gaza Strip without exploding.”
The radio did not provide further details regarding when the incident occurred, and whether an investigation will be opened into it.
It is also not known whether the bomb and the plane from which it fell were on their way to bomb an area inside the Gaza Strip.
However, later statements indicated that the fall of a huge bomb on the town of Yated resulted in damage.
Media reports under the title “A Serious Flaw in the Israel Defense Forces” indicated that a huge bomb fell today (Friday) in Moshav Yatad, south of Otav, causing damage, according to what Hillel Biton Rosen, Army Radio’s correspondent for military and security affairs, reported.
The Eshkol Regional Council reported, “In the morning hours, it was discovered that a huge bomb had fallen from a warplane in the yard of a house in the Yatid settlement. Security forces were working at the scene to evacuate the downed plane.”
He added, "The situation is being evaluated by specialists at the scene of the accident, and accordingly instructions will be issued to the residents of the moshav who live close to the site of the fall... if necessary... and the accident will be investigated by the IDF."< /p>
This news comes less than 24 hours after another news regarding injuries among Israeli soldiers as a result of a “friendly fire” incident.
The Israeli army announced, yesterday, Thursday, that a number of its soldiers were exposed to a munitions explosion in a military zone south of the Sderot settlement in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army later said, “A short while ago, an operational accident occurred as a result of an ammunition explosion in the military zone near the ‘Black Arrow’ monument, south of Sderot in the Gaza Strip, where Israeli army forces are stationed.”
He added that he had opened an investigation into the incident.
According to the newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth", the cannon exploded in a number of Israeli soldiers near Kibbutz Melasim in the Gaza Strip, while it was firing shells towards Jabalia, north of Gaza.
