Six Israeli soldiers were injured - one of them in critical condition - in a clash with a group that infiltrated from Lebanese territory on Monday, according to Israeli Channel 12, while Hezbollah members were killed and a Lebanese army officer was wounded by Israeli bombing.
The Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement, claimed responsibility for the armed infiltration into Israel from southern Lebanon.
The Israeli army said that it killed two people who infiltrated from southern Lebanon, while a third fled back to Lebanese territory, adding that it bombed 3 Hezbollah sites on the border.
Hezbollah confirmed the killing of 5 of its members during the Israeli bombing that targeted southern Lebanon after the infiltration operation.
Hezbollah added that it attacked the Israeli Pranit and Avivim barracks, the leadership of a battalion of the Western Brigade in the Israeli army, and the command center of the Israeli Galilee Division with guided missiles and mortar shells.
Hezbollah explained that its attack on the Israeli army in the Galilee was a preliminary response to the killing of its members on the Lebanese border.
For its part, the Lebanese army said that an officer was slightly injured as a result of the Israeli bombing of the courtyard of their forces center in the vicinity of the town of Rmeish in southern Lebanon.
The Lebanese-Israeli border witnessed exchanges of gunfire, aircraft overflights, and artillery shelling after the infiltration operation, and an Israeli raid took place near sites belonging to the International Emergency Forces (UNIFIL) on the outskirts of the town of Yarin in southern Lebanon, according to an Al Jazeera correspondent.
The Al Jazeera correspondent also reported that a rocket was fired from Lebanon towards Israel after an Israeli bombing, adding that the Israeli army is sending additional military reinforcements to the border with Lebanon.
The Israeli army said that their helicopters were launching raids on several sites in Lebanese territory after the infiltration attempt, stressing that they are continuing to comb the area.
The Lebanese army called on citizens to be careful and not to go to the border areas in order to preserve their safety following the exposure of the border areas to Israeli bombing.
The incident comes a day after the party announced that it had fired large numbers of artillery shells and guided missiles at Israeli sites in the occupied Shebaa Farms, amid the continuation of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip the day after the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades launched the “Al-Aqsa Flood” military operation against Israel.
